Today
in History - April 10
Teaming with
Douglas Fairbanks, D.W. Griffith, and Mary Pickford to form
United Artists suited Charlie Chaplin. The company's profits(利润)did not bother him, even though Chaplin was a Socialist. But
Hollywood did not always suit Charlie Chaplin and neither
did America. When refused re-entry to the states by
immigration authorities, Chaplin retorted(反击), I wouldn't go
back there if Jesus Christ were President. But on April 10,
1972, he did go back to receive a Special Oscar for his
incalculable(无穷的) effect he had on making motion pictures, the
art form of this century. Beautiful people, he said upon
receiving his award, this is my renaissance(新生). 3 years later,
the Little Tramp returned to his native England to be
knighted(授以爵位)by the queen as Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin.
